Human Trafficking
The NCJW Human Trafficking Committee has a mission to make as many people as possible aware of the dangers of human trafficking.
During the 2021-2022 year, this devoted committee expanded on our QR code initiative, placing our own Sarasota-Manatee NCJW code on notepads and key tags, which when scanned, connects victims to the Human Trafficking Hotline, that offers immediate help. This QR code system was initiated by Toretelina Thompson, known as Lina Thompson, a human trafficking survivor. It offers support to potential victims and metrics about usage for our information. We have distributed our QR pads to locations in our community where trafficking is known to be prevalent, such as airports, libraries, YMCA, Salvation Army, All Stars, SPARC, and highway rest stops. We offer key tags to attendees at all of our presentations.
In March, 2022, NCJW, HIPPY, and Selah Freedom joined together to present, “Sex, Lies and Media for Adults,” providing education on the dangers of Human Trafficking and assistance (to potential victims) to HIPPY parents in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. This program was offered in English by NCJW presentees and in Spanish by a Selah Freedom employee. Our committee continues a committed relationship with Selah Freedom for exceptional awareness training, on how to present information to ages kindergarten to adult. This exemplary education has been completed by thirteen members of this committee. Three more are scheduled for the program.
This passionate committee works tirelessly to promote Human Trafficking awareness through many planned community programs throughout the year. Please join us and together we can make a difference in putting an end to Human Trafficking.
