HIPPY

HIPPY

HIPPY, the acronym for Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters, is a program developed in Israel and brought to the United States by NCJW in the early 1980’s. HIPPY is a home-based, early intervention program to help parents create experiences that lay the foundation for success in school.

Our Sarasota-Manatee section supports HIPPY in many ways. We donate backpacks with school supplies for children graduating into kindergarten. This year, the directors of Sarasota and Manatee HIPPY informed us that the children were in critical need of socks and underwear. With generous donations from members, we were able to provide a 5-day supply of socks and underwear for all the children enrolled in Sarasota and Manatee HIPPY.

Another important way in which we have been able to support HIPPY was presenting a Human Trafficking program as requested by the HIPPY parents.  The NCJW Human Trafficking committee presented their program to 70 parents in English and Spanish with Selah Freedom. It was extremely well-received and a benefit to all who heard it.

We can always use more volunteers. If you would like more information about how you can help with HIPPY, please contact Chair Barbara Aferiat: barbara@aferiat.com.
